Disseminating Safe Migration Message Through Sports to Youth in Jaffna

Football is a popular sport among the youth in Jaffna district where an area identified with high number of migrants attempting use irregular migration methods. The safe migration campaigning team organized an awareness raising mass information campaign through a series of football matches by targeting more than 1300 individuals in the audience. This energetic event was perceived as a great opportunity to show case the benefits of regular migration to girls, boys visiting the event from many areas of Sri Lanka. Awareness on the benefits of regular migration were disseminated by using popular football players from the event who took a voluntary lead as youth ambassadors. In return, the participants engaged in a survey which assessed their knowledge, attitude and behviour on safe and regular migration. Nearly, 600 comment cards were retrieved with vital safe migration related queries and comments.
